HOW TO THICKEN HAIR

Having flat, fine hair can be a serious struggle, but it doesn’t have to be. Today, we’re breaking down tips and tricks to teach you how to thicken hair – or at the very least make it look a little thicker.
What causes fine hair? Many people are born with finer hair, simply because of their genetics. But for some, hair can actually become finer and thinner over time. Some of the most common causes? Color processing and chemical treatments. Color processing and many other chemical treatments, break down the proteins in hair and cause them to leach out. The result? Hair loses mass and becomes thinner, flatter...limp and lifeless.
Common Thin, Fine Hair MistakesThose with thin, fine hair can also exacerbate the problem with the wrong hair care regime. It’s important to wash your hair whenever it’s getting oily. Some people with thin hair don’t shampoo enough because they panic when they see hair in their shower drain. It’s natural for hair to shed periodically. It will grow back as long as you are keeping your scalp clean and using the right shampoo.
THIS IS KEY. You might have decided to take a ‘healthy’ approach to hair care with an organic/natural shampoo. And while they definitely sound good, many ‘natural’ claiming surfactants cause build up and are difficult to remove. These ingredients can build up on the scalp and block the hair follicle, causing hair loss and preventing new hair growth.
Organic shampoos aren’t the only culprit either. Any shampoo that promises to do anything other than clean (whether it's to thicken hair or to boost volume) contains stay-behind ingredients. Adding these extra ingredients to shampoo formulas is counter-productive as they are engineered to not rinse off, so they can adhere to the hair. Non-cleansing ingredients commonly found in shampoos (silicones, conditioning agents, oils, parabens) leave a film on the hair which makes it dull, weighs it down, and again can cause hair loss.
Basically, if your shampoo promises to do anything other than clean you’re in trouble. Our go to? Color Security Shampoo. It’s the only clean and clear formula that rinses totally off and maintains optimum scalp and hair health. You can learn more about how it works here.
How to Thicken Hair (Or at least make it look that way)

One option to try? Color Wow’s Carb-Infused Dream Cocktail. It thickens and adds mass to hair by surrounding each strand with an invisible, weightless carb-based complex. Vital, natural nutrients (like carb-intense oat bran, starch, and cellulose) are activated by heat to fatten up and improve the overall quality of every strand.
Check out this before and after:

Here’s how to do it: after washing and conditioning your hair, you can towel dry your hair lightly. Then apply the Carb-Infused Dream Cocktail as a leave-in treatment to your strands, starting an inch from the scalp through to the ends. Then begin to blowout your hair.
You can see the whole process in action right here:
Once you’ve got your strands in tip top shape, it’s time to pump up the volume. You can try texturizing sprays (like Style on Steroids).
You could also try a root lifter (our pick is Raise the Root).
And while these definitely help, they’re really just lifting the hair off the scalp to make it look more voluminous.
If you want to make your hair look even fuller, you can opt to cover gaps in your hairline or on your scalp with Root Cover Up.
