What is the best way to detangle hair without breakage?

Gentle technique is just as important as the products and tools you use to detangle.

Hair is most fragile when it's wet, so always detangle patiently, starting at the ends and gradually working your way up towards the roots. Trying to pull a brush straight through from root to tip puts unnecessary tension on knots and increases the risk of breakage.

Applying a conditioner or leave-in detangling spray before brushing helps create slip, reducing friction and making knots much easier to work through.

A wide-tooth comb or a brush designed for gentle detangling is ideal, particularly for curly, coily, or textured hair, which naturally tangles more easily. Taking your time and working in small sections helps protect the cuticle and keeps breakage to a minimum.
