BEHIND THE SCENES: CELEBRITY STYLIST CHRIS APPLETON GIVES US A PEEK INTO HIS CLOSET
Celebrity Stylist Chris Appleton is known as a stylist to the stars. He’s created signature looks for everyone – Kim Kardashian West, JLo, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Rita Ora, and beyond. He’s a master fueled by his love of the industry. Now he is taking us to where the magic happens, giving us a peek at how he pulls off these incredible styles.
“I live and breathe hair,” says Chris. Which is why he has an entire closet (yes, really!) filled with hair extensions in a wide array of colors, wigs, styling products, brushes, dyes, glitters, accessories, tools, and beyond. All of these go into creating signature styles, most of which are wigs or extensions.
“I love wigs, they are for fun and to play with a new look – especially because your own hair can only do so much.” But creating unique styles and colors can be expensive, Chris shares that most wigs range from $3,000 to $20,000. “It takes so many years to grow, which is why the hair’s expensive,” not to mention the hours of styling.
Most pieces don’t just start out looking like A-list hair. According to Chris Appleton, most hair comes raw, not in an amazing color. Usually in a yellow or dark black color. “There’s hours of coloring, toning, lightening, processing, and grooming that goes into each piece.” Some can even take up to a week, even with the help of assistants.
For those who can’t afford to have someone like Chris head to their home, he loves to direct them to Glam Seamless. He uses their hair on the regular, but they also offer a wide array of colors and options.
Chris also reminds us, “Laying a wig is a process, and products that work well on extensions and natural hair are essential, you want it to blend. Sometimes products can change the texture of the wig and that’s definitely not what you want.”
When asked about the most essential product, he shared that sulfate-free shampoo is essential to make sure the hair is properly prepped.

After he’s colored the wigs and extensions, Chris begins to shape and sculpt the hair to create different looks. The two signature styles he’s most known for? Glass hair and the wet look. He uses Color Wow products to create the look, “These products do exactly what they say they’re gonna do.”
